Agartala: West Tripura Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak, along with forensic officials, questioned the wife of late DGP Anurag Dhankar at the officer’s government residence as part of the ongoing investigation into his death.
Pathak has been leading the probe since a three-member team was constituted on July 24 by Acting DGP G.S. Rao to investigate Dhankar’s death, which occurred on July 20 when he was found hanging in a washroom attached to his chamber at Tripura Police Headquarters. The team was later expanded to 10 members following opposition demands for a wider inquiry, and includes officers from the Crime Branch, Cyber Crime unit, and other departments.
Investigators have said the probe involves examining post-mortem and forensic reports, digital evidence, mobile call records, electronic devices, and CCTV footage to establish the circumstances of Dhankar’s death. Officials have also seized his uniform, official vehicle, and electronic devices for forensic examination.
The questioning of Dhankar’s wife comes amid heightened political scrutiny of the case, with the alleged existence of a suicide note becoming a flashpoint in the Assembly this week, including the suspension of a Congress MLA who raised the issue.
