Agartala: Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Monday informed the Tripura Legislative Assembly that 204.45 km of state roads have already been upgraded to double-lane status, with the remaining state highways to be taken up in the next phase, subject to availability of land and funds.
Responding to a question from BJP MLA Tafajjal Hossain, Saha said the government intends to widen all remaining state highways to double-lane standards, though implementation would depend on resource availability. In a supplementary question, Hossain urged the government to reconsider the alignment of the Bishramganj–Melaghar–Sonamura–Belonia road, suggesting an alternative route via Bishalgarh and Boxanagar to avoid risks to the Gomati river embankment and flood-prone areas.
The Chief Minister also outlined plans for a new 3.985-km flyover in Agartala, with entry and exit connectivity toward Battala, to ease traffic congestion. He said feasibility studies and land acquisition planning are already underway, pending Finance Department approval.
Saha explained that an earlier flyover proposal — a 2.905-km stretch from IGM Chowmuhani to Circuit House, estimated at ₹593.33 crore — was reconsidered after concerns emerged over its impact on existing buildings, despite ₹65 crore already sanctioned for land acquisition.
