Water Levels Rise in Balda Canal, Sri Lanka Basti; Relief Camp Opened

JIRANIA: Water levels have risen sharply in the Balda Canal and Sri Lanka Basti areas of Jirania sub-division, prompting authorities to open a relief camp for affected residents, officials said.

Local MLA Ratan Chakraborty and Jirania Sub-Divisional Magistrate Animesh Dhar visited the affected areas on Sunday to assess the situation on the ground and review preparedness measures. Both the sub-divisional and district administrations are closely monitoring the developing situation, according to sources.

The relief camp has been set up to accommodate residents displaced or at risk due to the rising water, though officials have not yet confirmed the number of people currently housed there.

Authorities said further steps would be taken as required, depending on how the water levels progress in the coming hours. Residents in low-lying areas have been advised to remain alert and cooperate with administration officials overseeing the relief efforts.
