An Indian national was killed and nine others injured in a road accident in Oman after a vehicle veered off Sultan Said bin Teymur Street on Saturday, according to the Royal Oman Police. The incident involved a group of Indian citizens travelling together when their vehicle suddenly lost control and left the roadway, resulting in a fatality and multiple injuries.
Police said the crash triggered an immediate emergency response. The Royal Oman Police Air Wing carried out an urgent evacuation, airlifting two seriously injured individuals from Al Hema Governorate to Nizwa Hospital for advanced treatment. The remaining injured passengers were transported by ambulance to the same hospital.
Authorities have not yet released details about what caused the vehicle to veer off the road. However, earlier reports from Khaleej Times noted that officials had warned motorists of low visibility due to thunderstorms, heavy rain and blowing dust across several highways. Such conditions often lead to sudden loss of control, reduced braking efficiency and increased accident risk.
Police confirmed that all victims involved in the crash were Indian nationals, and investigations are underway to determine whether weather, speed, or mechanical failure contributed to the accident.
The tragedy highlights the vulnerability of expatriate workers and travellers on Oman’s long-distance highways, where weather‑related hazards can escalate quickly. Indian missions in the Gulf typically coordinate with local authorities in such cases to support affected families, though no official statement has yet been issued.
