TELIAMURA: A road blockade by surrendered members of the LLFT group on the Agartala-Assam National Highway near Hatai Kotor’s Sadhupara area was withdrawn on Tuesday following the intervention of Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma, acting on directions from Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, officials said.
The protesters, pressing a seven-point charter of demands, alleged they had not been adequately informed about post-surrender government facilities and rehabilitation arrangements, leading to the disruption in traffic movement for some time.
Following discussions, Minister Debbarma assured the protesters of detailed talks on August 21 to address their demands, after which the blockade was lifted. However, protesters warned they would resume agitation if the talks fail to yield a satisfactory resolution.
Debbarma said road blockades offer no permanent solution and reiterated the government’s commitment to tribal welfare and development, stating that surrendered LLFT members’ concerns would be given due consideration.
All eyes now remain on the outcome of the August 21 meeting.
