SABROOM: A 50-year-old man has been detained by Manubazar Police Station in South Tripura’s Sabroom subdivision following allegations that he sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl with special needs, belonging to a tribal community, sources said.
According to the girl’s family, the alleged assault occurred on the afternoon of August 15, Independence Day, when the accused reportedly found the house empty and took the minor inside, where the assault allegedly took place. The matter came to light after family members and local women raised concerns, following which the accused, identified as Joharlal Debnath, was detained from his residence and brought to the police station.
With assistance from the local gram pradhan and women residents, the girl was taken to Sabroom Subdivisional Hospital for a medical examination, sources added.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
