Agartala, Aug 17: Amid allegations of political colour being given by the opposition to a recent market eviction drive near Nandannagar Don Bosco School, representatives of a BJP-affiliated tribal organisation met Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor Deepak Majumder on Monday and urged him to personally visit the site to assess the ground situation.
The eviction, carried out by the AMC in the area, had reportedly drawn criticism from opposition quarters, who allegedly sought to frame the civic action in political terms. In response, members of the BJP tribal wing called on the mayor, requesting him to inspect the affected area firsthand before further steps are taken.
The delegation is learnt to have raised concerns over the manner in which the eviction issue was being portrayed, urging the municipal administration to address the matter transparently and clarify the facts on the ground.
Mayor Deepak Majumder is yet to make a public statement on the delegation’s request.
