Agartala: The Government Railway Police (GRP) seized 10.215 kg of ganja and arrested a youth during a raid conducted on Platform No. 1 of Agartala Railway Station.
The arrested individual has been identified as Iman Hossain (24). Acting on specific information, GRP personnel intercepted him at the platform and recovered the contraband from a backpack he was carrying.
The seized ganja has an estimated market value of approximately Rs 3 lakh, police said.
Following the seizure, a case has been registered against the accused under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Police said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to curb the smuggling of narcotics through the railway network, which has increasingly been used as a route for transporting contraband into and across the state.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the drugs and whether the accused was operating alone or as part of a larger trafficking network. Authorities are also examining possible links to interstate smuggling routes.
The accused has been produced before the court and further legal proceedings are in progress.
