Journalists Made to Stand in Sun as Public Occupies Press Seats at Bishalgarh Independence Day Event

BISHALGARH: The 80th Independence Day was observed at the Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s Office on Saturday, but the occasion was marred by reports of journalists being sidelined during the proceedings.

According to those present, seats designated for the press and marked with a signboard were occupied by members of the public who had gathered for the event, leaving journalists to stand under the scorching sun while covering the programme. The incident has reportedly drawn sharp criticism, with many terming it a slight against the media, described as the “fourth pillar of democracy,” on a day meant to honour the nation.

The event was attended by Sub-Divisional Magistrate Binki Saha, MLA Sushanta Deb, Bishalgarh Police Station OC Bijoy Das, District Coordination and Monitoring (DCM) Officer Prasenjit Das, and others. MLA Sushanta Deb addressed the gathering during the programme.
