Tripura’s Organic Honey, Pineapple Shine at International Buyer-Seller Meet

AGARTALA: Tripura’s organic produce found a global gateway on Monday as the International Organic Buyer Seller Meet unfolded at Hotel Polo Towers here, marking the state’s first-ever export of organic honey to Dubai, UAE, even as its famed Queen Pineapple drew buyer attention on display.

Organised by the Department of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare, the event was inaugurated by Minister Ratan Lal Nath. Agriculture Secretary Apurba Roy, Department Director Dr Fani Bhushan Jamatia, APEDA Senior Consultant Dr Tarun Bajaj, and IFOAM Executive Director Jennifer Chang were among the dignitaries present.

APEDA and TSOFDA jointly launched a 12-stall exhibition showcasing Tripura’s organic bounty, with Queen Pineapple, malai tea, ginger, turmeric and jackfruit among the star attractions.

The centrepiece of the event was the flag-off of one metric tonne of organic honey, produced by Dergang Agro Fed Producer Company Limited of Kanchanpur, for export to Dubai via Guwahati-based APEDA-registered exporter M/s Salt Range Foods Private Limited — the first such shipment from the state.

The meet drew over 60 buyers from India and abroad, including 21 buyers from nine countries, alongside nearly 100 local farmers, signalling growing international interest in Tripura’s organic sector.
