KAILASHAHAR: A Bangladeshi youth allegedly died after being fired upon by the Border Security Force (BSF) along the India-Bangladesh border near Kailashahar, triggering a stir in the region.
The deceased has been identified as Tara Mia (24), a resident of Dashteki village, Prithimpasha area, Kulaura upazila, Moulvibazar district, Bangladesh, son of Abdul Malik.
According to local sources and BSF officials, the incident occurred late Saturday night around midnight near the fencing light area close to Border Pillar No. 1845/63-S in Border Zone No. 44, under Magurauli Gram Panchayat, Gournagar RD Block. Reportedly, five to six Bangladeshi youths attempted to cross the border carrying smuggled goods and did not heed repeated warnings from BSF jawans on duty. The BSF is said to have opened fire to bring the situation under control, critically injuring Tara Mia, who reportedly died on the spot.
BSF personnel and police from Irani police station reached the site and carried out necessary legal procedures. The body was sent to Unakoti District Hospital for post-mortem and is currently kept in the morgue, said Dr. Imran Ahmed, the doctor on duty.
