Agartala: The Tripura Pradesh Congress Sadar District Committee organised a protest programme against alleged large-scale misappropriation of public funds under the Agartala Smart City project, calling for united resistance against those responsible.
Congress leaders alleged that crores of rupees in taxpayers’ money meant for the Smart City initiative have been misused, and claimed that residents of Agartala have been left to suffer due to prolonged civic mismanagement linked to the project’s execution.
The party demanded accountability from those in charge of implementing the Smart City scheme, alleging that mismanagement and alleged corruption have caused hardship for ordinary citizens rather than the promised urban development.
Participants in the protest raised slogans against the state government and civic authorities, calling for a thorough probe into the utilisation of Smart City funds. Congress leaders urged residents to come together against what they termed as large-scale financial irregularities affecting the city’s infrastructure and services.
The protest is the latest in a series of demonstrations by opposition parties targeting the implementation of central and state-funded urban development schemes in Tripura’s capital.
