Agartala: The Weavers’ Service Centre, Agartala, under the Office of the Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, is organising the celebration of the 12th National Handloom Week on August 4, 2026, at the Conference Hall, Pariksha Bhawan, Tripura University, starting at 10:30 AM.
Prof. Debabrata Das, Vice-Chancellor of Tripura University, will attend the event as Chief Guest.
Shri Samir Kumar Shil, Registrar (I/C), Tripura University, and Shri Ajit Sukla Das, IAS, Additional Secretary and Director of the Directorate of Handloom, Handicraft and Sericulture, Government of Tripura, will be present as Special Guests.
Dr. Rajesh Chatterjee, Assistant Professor at the Centre for the Study of Social Inclusion, Tripura University, and Smt. Shaon Ray Chaudhuri, Professor, Department of Microbiology, Tripura University, will grace the occasion as Guests of Honour.
The programme, hosted by the Head of Office, Weavers’ Service Centre, Agartala, aims to commemorate the significance of the handloom sector and honour the contribution of weavers to the state’s traditional textile heritage.
National Handloom Week is observed annually to promote awareness about the handloom industry and recognise the skill and dedication of weavers across the country.
