Agartala: As many as 100 sewing machines were distributed today under an initiative taken by Ward No. 5 of the Agartala Municipal Corporation, in association with the Directorate of Skill Development.
The distribution programme aimed at empowering local residents, particularly women, by equipping them with the means to take up tailoring as a source of livelihood and self-employment. Beneficiaries from the ward received the sewing machines during the event, which was held with the objective of promoting skill development and economic self-reliance among the community.
The programme was attended by Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Deepak Majumder, along with the Deputy Mayor and Ward No. 5 Councillor Lata Nath, among other dignitaries and civic officials.
Speaking on the occasion, the attending dignitaries highlighted the importance of skill-based initiatives in fostering financial independence, especially among women and underprivileged sections of society. They noted that such distribution drives not only provide immediate livelihood support but also encourage entrepreneurship at the grassroots level.
The Mayor and other officials expressed hope that the beneficiaries would make effective use of the machines to enhance their household income and contribute to the broader goal of self-reliance within the community.
