Not Quitting Politics, Says Rebati Tripura; Former MP Returns to Teaching

Agartala: Former BJP Member of Parliament Rebati Tripura has returned to the teaching profession, joining Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Higher Secondary School in Agartala as a graduate teacher, even as he clarified that he is not stepping away from politics.

A postgraduate in Political Science, Tripura hails from a remote village in Dhalai district. Before entering politics, he had been serving as a schoolteacher since 2001. He joined the BJP in 2014 and was fielded by the party from the East Tripura Lok Sabha constituency in the 2019 general elections, which he went on to win.

However, over the past two and a half years, Tripura has remained largely inactive within the party. He has now taken up a teaching position in a government school, citing his long-standing connection to education and stating that a government job would also secure him pension benefits in the future.

Despite his return to the classroom, Tripura maintained that he has no plans to sever ties with politics and will continue to remain associated with public and political life alongside his teaching responsibilities.

His decision has drawn attention across political circles in the state.
