Radhapur: An abandoned, accident-damaged auto-rickshaw was recovered late last night from the Wari Tuisa area under Radhapur police station, triggering a stir among local residents.
The auto-rickshaw, bearing registration number TR 07 A 2101, was first spotted by locals in a damaged condition. Alarmed by the sight, residents promptly alerted the police, who arrived at the spot and recovered the vehicle.
Notably, neither the driver nor any passengers were found in or around the auto at the time of recovery. Police suspect that the vehicle met with an accident, following which the driver abandoned it on the spot and fled the scene. It remains unclear what caused the mishap or the circumstances under which the vehicle was left unattended.
As of now, no information regarding any casualties or injuries linked to the incident has emerged. Police said they are yet to establish whether anyone was travelling in the vehicle at the time of the accident.
Speaking to the media, officials from Radhapur police station confirmed the recovery of the vehicle and said further investigation is underway to trace the driver and ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the accident.
