SABROOM:Unidentified miscreants poisoned a pond at the residence of Shikha Das, Pradhan of West Harina Gram Panchayat under Satchand RD Block in Sabroom, killing the entire stock of fish overnight, police said on [29.07.2026].
Family members discovered the incident on Thursday morning when they went to the pond and found fish floating dead both in the water and along the banks. Villagers rushed to the spot after news of the incident spread, and Sabroom Police Station was alerted. Police visited the site for inspection and have registered a written complaint from the family, launching an investigation.
Das told police that no family member witnessed the act, but it is suspected the poison was poured into the pond late at night. The family estimated the loss at around five quintals of fish, valued at over ₹1.5 lakh at current market rates.
The incident comes days after miscreants destroyed a rubber plantation belonging to a daily-wage labourer in nearby Damdama, raising concern among residents over a possible pattern of targeted vandalism in the area. Locals have demanded police identify and take strict action against those responsible.
