AGARTALA: The BJP on Tuesday announced an eight-month statewide programme, “Sampriti Sankalp Abhijan,” to commemorate the 650th birth anniversary of Sant Shiromani Shri Guru Ravidas Maharaj, at a press conference addressed by state General Secretary and MLA Bhagaban Chandra Das, Vice-President Ajanta Bhattacharya, and Media In-charge Sunit Sarkar.
Ajanta Bhattacharya said the initiative, undertaken by the BJP nationally and in the state, will run from July 29, 2026, to February 20, 2027.
Bhagaban Chandra Das spoke on the life and teachings of Guru Ravidas, describing him as a sage-like figure born in Varanasi who faced social discrimination despite his spirituality and righteousness. He thanked the Prime Minister for initiatives to spread awareness about Ravidas’s legacy.
Das announced that the campaign will begin on July 29 with lamp-lighting ceremonies at Ravidas temples across the state, and appealed to the public to participate, including through observances at their homes.
He also announced a related programme involving the ceremonial arrival of a sacred pitcher of soil collected from a holy pilgrimage site, with further details to be shared subsequently.
The party said the campaign aims to honour Ravidas’s contributions and promote social harmony across Tripura.
