AGARTALA: A car driver has lodged a complaint against a local youth leader at West Agartala Police Station, alleging extortion and death threats, causing a stir in the Tulsibati Maruti Stand area within the Chief Minister’s own assembly constituency.
The complainant, driver Bittu Karmakar, alleged that Tanuj Dasgupta had been forcibly demanding Rs 50,000 from him over a prolonged period in connection with a car purchase at the stand.
According to the complaint, on Tuesday morning, Dasgupta arrived at the stand and pressured Karmakar to pay the amount, allegedly threatening to kill him and shoot him dead if the money was not handed over.
Following the incident, an alarmed Karmakar, along with other drivers and representatives of the Maruti stand, filed a written complaint at the police station, seeking action against the accused.
The case has triggered widespread concern in the locality, with residents and fellow drivers voicing alarm over the alleged threats and extortion attempt.
Police have registered a case based on the complaint and are investigating the matter. Attention now turns to what action authorities take against the accused in the coming days.
No official statement from the accused has been issued so far regarding the allegations.
