AGARTALA: Former Union Minister Pratima Bhowmik on Tuesday met with officials of the National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to review the pace of ongoing construction work on National Highway 8 (NH-8).
During the meeting, Bhowmik sought detailed updates on the current status of the project, including the progress of construction, timelines for completion, and challenges, if any, being faced by the executing agency.
NH-8 is a crucial connectivity corridor for Tripura, and its timely completion is considered vital for improving transportation, reducing travel time, and boosting trade and commerce in the region. Delays in highway projects have often drawn public criticism, making periodic reviews by public representatives significant.
Officials from NHIDCL are learnt to have briefed the former Union Minister on the various stages of construction, along with steps being taken to expedite the work.
Bhowmik reportedly urged the authorities to ensure that the project is completed within the stipulated timeframe, keeping in mind the needs of commuters and the broader developmental impact of the highway on the state.
