UNAKOTI: State Minister Sudhangshu Das on Tuesday publicly raised concerns over medical services at Unakoti District Hospital, five days after government lawyers had lodged complaints against the facility.
Making a surprise inspection, the Minister acknowledged that while the hospital’s overall environment was satisfactory, several deficiencies remained in the quality of medical services that required urgent redressal.
During the nearly two-hour-long visit, Das toured various departments of the hospital and interacted with patients, their family members, doctors, and health workers to gain a first-hand assessment of the services being provided on the ground.
Following the inspection, he directed the Medical Superintendent to prepare a detailed report on the shortcomings. He further stated that the findings would soon be formally submitted in writing to Chief Minister and Health Minister Dr. Manik Saha, the Director of Health Services, and the Health Department Secretary.
The Minister’s inspection comes at a significant juncture, following the recent controversy over the treatment of a lawyer injured in an accident, which had triggered widespread criticism over the hospital’s healthcare services.
Officials said corrective measures are expected to be taken once the report is submitted and reviewed by senior authorities.
