Scheduled Caste Body Submits 10-Point Charter of Demands to SDM in Dharmanagar

DHARMANAGAR: The Tripura Scheduled Caste Coordination Committee staged a mass deputation march in Dharmanagar on [date], submitting a 10-point charter of demands to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of North Tripura district.

Organised by the committee’s Dharmanagar subdivisional unit, the procession began from the CPI(M) subdivisional office and moved through the town’s main roads before a delegation presented the memorandum at the SDM’s office.

The demands include an immediate caste-based census, increased Lok Sabha seats with reservation for Scheduled Castes, fully government-funded education and healthcare, higher stipends for SC students, and removal of income ceilings for benefits. The committee also demanded that vacant government posts be filled swiftly, private-sector reservation be maintained, MGNREGA and TUEP work days be raised to 200 annually with ₹500 daily wages, and loans up to ₹5 lakh be waived for fisheries, agriculture and small businesses.

Further demands covered land and housing support for landless families, higher social welfare pensions, free electricity and rice allocations, business reservation for Dalit entrepreneurs, and curbs on rising prices.

The delegation included Ujjwala Das, Sitesh Ranjan Das, Niranjan Mallick, Ashok Das, Gourango Das and subdivisional secretary Tapas Sarkar, who warned of a larger agitation if demands go unmet.
