Bishalgarh: The All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) staged a two-hour sit-in demonstration in front of the CPI(M) Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Committee office on Thursday, demanding effective implementation of the Women’s Reservation Bill.
Addressing the gathering, women’s leader Rehana Begum said that Tripura ranks highest in the country in cases of atrocities against women, calling the statistic extremely shameful for the state. She stressed that despite the passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill at the national level, its actual implementation remained pending, denying women their rightful representation.
The demonstrators demanded that the state government take urgent steps to ensure women’s safety and address the rising incidents of violence against them. They also called upon the authorities to expedite the process of enacting the reservation law to enable greater participation of women in legislative bodies.
The sit-in saw participation from several members of the organisation, who raised slogans and held placards highlighting women’s rights and safety concerns. AIDWA leaders reiterated their resolve to continue the movement until concrete action is taken by the government on the issue.
