BISHALGARH: A two-and-a-half-year-old child, identified as Ismail Hossain, died on Thursday after allegedly drowning in a pond at his maternal grandparents’ house in the Kadamtali area under Bishalgarh police station.
According to family members, the child’s mother, Sharmila Begum, who has been residing at her father’s house for nearly three years, had left for work on Thursday morning after leaving her son in the care of relatives at home, as she reportedly did every day. The child is said to have fallen into the pond while playing.
He was rushed to Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The child’s death has left the family and the wider Kadamtali locality in shock, relatives said.
