SONAMURA: In a unanimous show of solidarity, the Sonamura Press Club has formed its new Executive Committee during a general body meeting held at the club’s office on Sunday. Acknowledging their stellar leadership, the members re-elected Biplab Chakraborty as President and Abhijit Bardhan as Secretary for another term.
The meeting kicked off with Secretary Bardhan presenting a comprehensive report detailing the club’s key milestones over the last three years. Expressing complete satisfaction with the outgoing team’s efficiency, the general body passed a major institutional reform: reducing the committee’s tenure from three years to two years for future terms.
To ensure wider representation, the core body expanded the committee strength from 7 to 9 members. The newly minted 9-member lineup features Tapas Laskar as Vice-President, Toton Choudhury as Assistant Secretary, Amit Datta as Treasurer, and Naresh Das as Office Secretary. Journalists Swapan Chakraborty, Jahirul Islam, and Mohammad Mamun were inducted as Executive Members, with Das and Mamun being the fresh faces on the board.
Following the election, the new leadership pledged to robustly safeguard journalists’ professional rights. They also actively appealed for state administrative cooperation to urgently upgrade the Press Club’s local infrastructure.
