Decaying Bridge Turns into “Death Trap” in Simna’s Putiyabil Para; Locals Accuse Panchayat of Neglect

SIMNA: Residents of Putiyabil Para in the Brahmakunda Gram Panchayat under Simna constituency are living in constant fear as a vital local bridge has remained broken for years, turning into a veritable death trap. With no alternative route available, hundreds of villagers—including children and the elderly—are forced to risk their lives daily, balancing across a dangerously tilted, rusted iron channel to cross the stream.

The prolonged structural neglect has cut off smooth connectivity to essential services, schools, and markets, triggering severe hardships for commuters. Local residents allege that despite repeated appeals, the Panchayat authorities have continuously dilly-dallied over the reconstruction project, offering nothing but empty assurances.

“We are risking our lives every single day. A minor slip could lead to a major tragedy, yet the administration remains completely indifferent to our plight,” a frustrated villager stated.

The community’s patience is rapidly wearing thin over the official apathy. Warning of intensifying public anger, the aggrieved residents of Putiyabil Para have issued an urgent ultimatum to the concerned department and higher authorities to immediately intervene, sanction funds, and rebuild the bridge before a fatal accident occurs.
