AGARTALA: The Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) will organise a dharna at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on August 23, renewing its demand for a separate Tipraland state, party General Secretary Swapan Debbarma announced at a press conference on Tuesday.
Addressing reporters, Debbarma said the sit-in protest was being planned to press the Centre on the long-standing demand for Tipraland, a separate state for the indigenous communities of Tripura.
He said the party would mobilise supporters to participate in the demonstration in the national capital, aiming to draw the central government’s attention to the issue.
The IPFT has consistently pushed the Tipraland demand in recent years, and the upcoming Delhi protest is expected to be a significant show of strength for the party in pursuit of its political objective.
