Karaimura Road Work Halted: Contractor Flees Amid “Cut Money” Row

South Charilam: Residents of Karaimura area under South Charilam Panchayat have alleged that a contractor engaged for road construction work abruptly abandoned the project and fled, reportedly fearing demands for “cut money” (illegal commission).

According to locals, the contractor left the site midway, leaving the road work incomplete and causing inconvenience to villagers who depend on the stretch for daily commute. Residents claimed the abrupt halt has left the road in a poor and unsafe condition, particularly affecting access during the monsoon season.

Villagers alleged that pressure for kickbacks from certain quarters may have prompted the contractor to withdraw from the project without completing the assigned work. However, the identity of those allegedly demanding the money remains unconfirmed.

No official response has yet been received from the South Charilam Panchayat or the concerned department regarding the allegations. Attempts to reach panchayat officials for comment were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.

Local residents have demanded immediate intervention from the administration to ensure the road work is resumed and completed at the earliest, citing daily hardship caused by the incomplete infrastructure.
