AGARTALA: The All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) submitted a deputation to the Agartala East Women’s Police Station on Thursday, demanding action over the alleged confinement and abuse of a minor girl from Nandannagar, who was reportedly held captive and tortured for three days.
Speaking on the occasion, AIDWA General Secretary Swapna Dutta alleged that women in the state have no safety, claiming that many victims are unable to even file police complaints due to this lack of security. She alleged that such incidents are occurring continuously across the state, while the state’s Home Minister remains indifferent to the issue.
Dutta demanded that the state government demonstrate genuine political will in ensuring women’s safety. Referring specifically to the Nandannagar case, she demanded exemplary punishment for the accused.
The organisation’s deputation calls for swift police action in the case. Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident or on AIDWA’s allegations against the Home Department.
