AGARTALA: Students of Lakshmandepa Higher Secondary School under Nalchar Assembly constituency staged a protest on Thursday, sitting on the road outside the school and locking its gate from around 8 am, alleging a severe shortage of teachers.
According to sources, the school has a total of 226 students but only six teachers to cater to them, including nearly 64 students studying in Classes XI and XII. Students and guardians alleged that the institution has been grappling with a shortage of subject teachers for a long time, severely affecting classroom instruction, particularly at the higher secondary level.
The situation reportedly escalated further after another teacher was recently transferred out of the school, leaving the institution even more short-staffed. Frustrated by the prolonged neglect, students decided to lock the school gate and sit in protest on the road, demanding immediate appointment of teachers.
The protest disrupted normal academic activities at the school for the day. There has been no immediate response from the Education Department on the matter.
