KALYANPUR: A daily-wage labourer died after being electrocuted while working on an electricity S.T. line in the Totabari area under Kalyanpur police station, triggering widespread anger over the alleged role of the Electricity Department.
The deceased, identified as Bidhu Kapali, a resident of Khowai Praharmura, was engaged in line maintenance work under contractor Samiran Debnath. According to co-workers, the power connection was allegedly switched on without proper intimation to the workers on site, causing Kapali to come into contact with a high-voltage wire. He was rushed to Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The incident has raised serious questions over whether safety protocols were followed and whether standard procedures were observed before work began. Locals and co-workers alleged administrative negligence and demanded an impartial investigation to fix accountability. They also sought adequate compensation for the worker’s family and employment for one family member.
