AGARTALA: Tripura’s largest Snan Yatra festival of Lord Jagannath was celebrated with great fervour on Sunday evening at the Hare Krishna Temple in Ashram Chowmuhani, marking the ceremonial bathing of the deities Jagannath, Baladev, and Mother Subhadra.
As part of the ritual, Ganga water was ceremonially brought from the Howrah River using 108 pitchers, carried by 108 Vaishnavi women in a procession accompanied by a sankirtan team. The event drew a large turnout of devotees, with the spiritual fervour and traditional rituals becoming the centre of attraction for residents across the city.
Temple authorities said the celebrations would continue on Monday with a series of colourful programmes, including Mangal Aarti in the morning, a Kirtan Mela, the grand Mahabhishek (holy bath) of Lord Jagannath, and offering of the traditional 56 Bhog. The day’s events will conclude with the distribution of Krishna Prasadam among devotees.
Organisers said the Snan Yatra, rooted in ancient Sanatan tradition, continues to be one of the most significant religious observances in the city, drawing devotees from across Agartala and beyond each year.
