BANKUL: CPI(M) on Saturday organised a protest march and roadside meeting at Bankul New Market, demanding rollback of the recent hike in petrol, diesel, and cooking gas prices, along with the rise in electricity bills.
The march, held at 9 am, wound through several roads in the locality before converging into a roadside meeting at Bankul New Market. The meeting was presided over by Sathoi Mog, member of the CPI(M) South District Committee.
Addressing the gathering, Prabhat Chowdhury, member of the CPI(M) South District Secretariat, criticised the State and Central governments over the continued burden of rising fuel and power costs on common people, alleging that successive price hikes had pushed ordinary households and daily wage earners into financial distress.
Party leaders reiterated their demand for immediate withdrawal of the price hikes, asserting that the CPI(M) would continue to organise such protests across the state until relief is provided to the public.
The programme saw participation from party workers and local residents of the Bankul area.
