AGARTALA: Eight illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators were detained by Airport Police Station personnel, with police registering a case and launching an investigation into the matter.
Addressing the media, Officer-in-Charge of Airport Police Station, Sushanta Deb, said the detainees had allegedly entered Indian territory through a specific border point with the help of an identified contact, though further verification of the entry route and the network involved is underway.
Police said the eight individuals are currently in custody and are being questioned to ascertain the purpose of their entry into the country, their final destination, and the identity of those who facilitated their illegal crossing.
The detention has once again brought into focus concerns over illegal cross-border movement into Tripura, with authorities stepping up vigilance along sensitive stretches of the international border.
Further legal action is expected once the investigation establishes the full extent of the network allegedly involved in facilitating the infiltration.
