CHARILAM: A complaint has surfaced against an anganwadi worker at the North Lalsingmura New Colony Anganwadi Centre under Charilam Block, with local residents alleging that she habitually reports to duty well past the official start time.
According to area residents, Alka Debnath, the centre’s caregiver, allegedly arrives at her workplace after 9 am every day, raising concerns over the impact on the welfare services meant for the area’s children and mothers under the Anganwadi scheme.
When approached, Debnath reportedly did not deny the allegation, neither offering an explanation nor disputing the claim of late arrival.
Residents have expressed frustration over what they describe as a pattern of negligence, alleging that government duty appears to take a back seat to personal priorities for the worker. They have called on the concerned department to look into the matter and ensure timely service delivery at the centre.
Anganwadi centres are tasked with providing nutrition, health check-ups, and pre-school education to children and expectant mothers, making punctuality and regular attendance of staff critical to the scheme’s functioning.
