AGARTALA: Tension gripped the court premises on Friday as local residents and family members of Samir Das, the victim in the Kathaltali murder case, gathered to see the accused brought before the court.
The crowd, however, was subsequently asked to leave the court premises by authorities. Following their removal, tensions spilled outside, where locals raised slogans demanding strict punishment for those accused in Das’s killing.
The situation prompted police intervention, with several individuals from the gathering reportedly taken into custody amid the protest.
The case stems from the murder of Samir Das in Kathaltali, which had earlier triggered widespread outrage in the area. The fresh scenes outside the court underscore the continuing public anger and demand for justice surrounding the case.
Police presence remained heightened in and around the court complex following the incident, with officials yet to issue a formal statement on the detentions or further legal proceedings expected to follow.
Locals reiterated their demand for swift and exemplary punishment for the accused, asserting that justice delayed would only deepen the community’s distress over the killing.
