Agartala: The Tipra Students’ Federation (TSF) staged a protest demonstration on Wednesday, demanding the immediate filling of reserved SC and ST vacant posts through a Special Recruitment Drive, along with the introduction of Kokborok textbooks in Roman script.
The agitation was held near the Circuit House area and continued for five hours, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with members and supporters of the organisation participating in large numbers.
Addressing reporters during the protest, TSF Vice-President John Debbarma said that a large number of reserved posts meant for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates remain unfilled across various government departments. He demanded that the state government initiate a Special Recruitment Drive at the earliest to fill these backlog vacancies and ensure constitutional safeguards for SC and ST candidates are upheld.
Debbarma also reiterated TSF’s long-standing demand for introducing Kokborok textbooks in Roman script in schools, asserting that it would make the indigenous language more accessible to students.
The organisation warned that if the government fails to act on their demands, they would be compelled to intensify their movement in the coming days.
