NORTH CHARILAM: Panic gripped the area near North Charilam Class XII School, located by the side of the National Highway, after a cow died on the spot after coming into contact with a live electric wire lying in a paddy field.
According to locals, the snapped electric wire had been lying unattended in the paddy field for several days, posing a serious safety hazard. The cow, belonging to Arati Bala Das, was grazing in the field when it came into contact with the live wire and died instantly, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Residents have expressed concern over the prolonged negligence that allowed a live wire to remain exposed in an open field for days without any intervention from the electricity department. Many pointed out that such hazards pose a grave risk not just to livestock but also to human lives, particularly children and farmers who frequently use the field.
Locals have demanded that the electricity department take immediate action to remove or repair the snapped wire and prevent similar incidents in the future. They have also urged the authorities to look into providing compensation to the affected owner for the loss of her livestock.
