Agartala:A three-day exhibition, seminar, and cultural programme organized by the Bishnupriya Manipuri Social and Cultural Society got underway at Bhagat Singh Yuva Abas, drawing a gathering of community members, cultural enthusiasts, and dignitaries from across the state.
Minister Santana Chakma attended the inaugural session as chief guest, lending the occasion an air of official recognition. Also present were Alaka Sinha, President of the Bishnupriya Manipuri Social and Cultural Society, General Secretary Praphulla Kumar Sinha, along with several other distinguished members of the community and society representatives.
The programme was formally inaugurated through the traditional lighting of the lamp, performed jointly by Minister Chakma and the invited guests, marking the symbolic start of the three-day event.
Speaking on the occasion, organizers said the initiative was designed to showcase the richness of Bishnupriya Manipuri culture, heritage, and social identity to a wider audience. They noted that the exhibition would feature traditional artifacts, attire, and cultural displays, while the seminar segment would focus on discussions around preserving the community’s customs and traditions for future generations. The cultural segment, organizers added, would bring together performances reflecting the community’s distinct musical and dance traditions.
The event is expected to continue over the next two days, with a series of programmes lined up to further highlight various aspects of Bishnupriya Manipuri culture and community life. Organizers expressed hope that the initiative would foster greater awareness and appreciation of the community’s heritage among the wider public.
