Agartala:Government Railway Police (GRP) on Wednesday arrested Bappi Sen, a resident of Dhubri district in Assam, after recovering ganja (cannabis) worth approximately Rs 6 lakh from his possession.
According to police sources, the arrest was made following a tip-off regarding the suspect’s movement, after which a team of GRP personnel intercepted him and conducted a thorough search. During the search, a substantial quantity of ganja was recovered, which has been estimated to be worth around Rs 6 lakh in the market.
Police said the accused was allegedly attempting to smuggle the contraband through the railway route when he was apprehended. Sen has been taken into custody and a case has been registered against him under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Officials stated that further interrogation is underway to ascertain the source of the narcotics, the intended destination, and whether any other individuals or networks were involved in the smuggling operation.
The GRP has reiterated its commitment to intensifying vigilance along railway routes to curb the smuggling of narcotics and other contraband items through the region, which has increasingly been used as a transit corridor for such illegal activities.
