Amtali Police Seize 18 Kg Cannabis Worth Rs 1 Lakh, One Youth Detained

Amtali: Police personnel attached to Amtali police station detained a youth and seized 18 kg of cannabis during a checkpoint inspection (naka checking) conducted this morning, officials said.

According to police, the cannabis, valued at approximately Rs 1 lakh in the market, was found concealed in two trolley bags carried by the youth. The contraband was detected during a routine vehicle and baggage check at the checkpoint.

During preliminary investigation, the detained youth reportedly admitted to police that he was transporting the cannabis to Guwahati. Police are now probing further to ascertain the source of the contraband and identify any other individuals who may be involved in the smuggling network.

Officer-in-Charge of Amtali police station, Paritosh Das, confirmed the seizure and stated that further investigation into the matter is underway. He added that efforts are being made to trace the supply chain and determine whether the accused has links to any larger drug trafficking operation.

The seized cannabis and the trolley bags have been taken into police custody as part of the investigation. The accused has been arrested and further legal proceedings are expected to follow.

Police have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on drug trafficking in the region and urged the public to report any suspicious activity related to narcotics.
