Agartala: Students and youth affiliated with the Ramnagar Local Committee organised a tribute programme this evening at Fire Service Chowmuhani to pay homage to three Indian sailors who were killed earlier this month in strikes carried out by the United States military on commercial vessels in the Gulf region.
According to organisers, the sailors lost their lives when US forces struck tankers operating near Oman amid the ongoing conflict involving the United States and Iran. The incident had drawn strong reactions from the Indian government, which summoned a senior US diplomat to seek an explanation over the attacks.
Speaking at the tribute event, leaders of the Ramnagar Local Committee condemned what they described as American aggression, holding it responsible for the deaths of the Indian seafarers. They paid floral tributes and observed a moment of silence in memory of the deceased sailors.
Participants at the event called for greater accountability from the United States and urged the Indian government to take a firmer stance in protecting the safety of Indian nationals working aboard international vessels amid ongoing regional tensions.
The programme saw participation from local students and youth, who expressed solidarity with the families of the deceased and demanded justice for the sailors who died in the line of duty.
The tribute comes amid continuing global concern over the safety of maritime workers caught in the crossfire of escalating tensions in the Gulf region.
