Agartala: The East Agartala Area Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) submitted a representative deputation to an official of Agartala Smart City Limited, located near Rabindra Bhavan, protesting against what it termed as public suffering caused in the name of building a Smart City.
Party leaders alleged that the State Government’s decisions and the working procedures adopted under the Smart City initiative have caused significant hardship to residents, rather than delivering the intended benefits of urban development. They criticised the manner in which the project has been executed, claiming it has led to inconvenience and distress among the general public.
Through the deputation, CPI(M) representatives placed their objections on record before the Smart City authorities, demanding a review of the current approach and greater accountability in the implementation of the project. They also called for measures to address the grievances of affected residents at the earliest.
Party leaders said the deputation was aimed at drawing the attention of the authorities to ground-level issues being faced by common people due to ongoing Smart City works, and urged that future planning take public welfare into greater consideration.
No official response from Agartala Smart City Limited had been issued at the time of filing this report.
