Agartala:In a significant drug bust, law enforcement authorities recovered 393 bottles of Phensedyl cough syrup — a commonly abused narcotic substance — from the Agartala Head Post Office. The consignment had been dispatched from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, raising serious concerns about the misuse of postal services for drug trafficking.
The recovery was made following a tip-off received by the Agartala West Police Station. Acting swiftly on the intelligence, police personnel rushed to the Head Post Office and intercepted the suspicious parcel before it could reach its intended recipient. Upon inspection, the parcel was found to contain 393 bottles of Phensedyl, which is a banned or restricted substance frequently used for substance abuse purposes.
Agartala West Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rana Chatterjee faced the media and presented detailed information regarding the seizure. He confirmed that the bottles were concealed within the postal package and were being sent from Ahmedabad to an address in Agartala. The OC stated that police have launched a thorough investigation to identify and apprehend those behind the smuggling network.
Authorities are now working to trace both the sender in Ahmedabad and the intended recipient in Agartala. It is suspected that this may be part of a larger inter-state drug smuggling racket that has been exploiting the postal network to transport contraband substances across state borders undetected.
