South Tripura:Workers at the West Ludhwa TFDPC Rubber Garden in South Tripura erupted in fierce protest today against the sudden transfer of Officer-in-Charge Fatik Jamatia, demanding the immediate withdrawal of the transfer order. The agitation began early this morning, with workers staging repeated demonstrations within the garden premises from 9 o’clock onwards.
Fatik Jamatia had assumed charge as Officer-in-Charge merely nine months ago. Despite his brief tenure, workers say he made a remarkable impact — bringing transparency, efficiency, and momentum to the garden’s day-to-day operations. Under his leadership, several long-pending worker grievances were addressed, administrative activities were streamlined, and developmental work in the garden gained visible progress.
The sudden transfer order has left the workforce deeply disappointed and frustrated. “He came here just nine months ago and already transformed the way this garden functions. Why is he being transferred so soon?” said one agitated worker during the demonstration.
Workers have issued a stern warning that if the transfer order is not withdrawn, they will launch an indefinite work stoppage from June 12 onwards — a move that could severely impact rubber production and the livelihoods of hundreds of families.
Currently, approximately 160 families are directly or indirectly dependent on this rubber garden for their survival. Workers fear that the arrival of a new and unfamiliar officer could disrupt the ongoing developmental initiatives and undo the progress achieved under Jamatia’s administration.
Local authorities and TFDPC officials have yet to respond publicly to the workers’ demands. The situation remains tense as workers await a formal response from the management.
