PANISAGAR: The Shiv and Kali Bari temple in Panisagar Bazar, North Tripura district, was allegedly burgled on two consecutive days this week, sparking unease in the area and raising questions over local security arrangements.
According to the temple and market committee, thieves first broke the temple’s window grille and struck in the early hours of Monday. The matter was reported to Panisagar police station the same night. However, the temple was targeted again in the early hours of Tuesday, when thieves allegedly broke open the donation box and made off with cash and gold ornaments belonging to Goddess Kali.
The temple committee estimated the total value of stolen items at between ₹1.5 lakh and ₹2 lakh. Market committee secretary Shekhar Chandra Das and local residents lodged a fresh complaint with police following the second incident.
Panisagar police reached the spot and have launched an investigation. The recurrence of theft at the same temple, despite prior police notification, has raised concerns over security in the temple and market area. The committee and residents are awaiting recovery of the stolen items and arrests.
