AGARTALA: The state conference of the Tripura Kshaurakarmi (Barbers’) Union was held at the CITU office here, drawing participation from trade union leaders and members of the barbers’ community from across the state.
Former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar attended the conference among other dignitaries. His presence lent significance to the event, seen as part of CITU’s continued outreach to unorganised sector workers in Tripura.
The conference reportedly discussed issues concerning the welfare and working conditions of barbers, a trade that falls under the state’s informal labour sector. Delegates are said to have deliberated on matters relating to livelihood security, recognition of the profession, and demands for better facilities for workers in the trade.
Union leaders used the platform to reaffirm their commitment to organising workers in the unorganised sector and pressing for their rights.
The conference concluded with delegates reportedly resolving to strengthen the union’s activities across the state in the coming period.
