Search for Missing Fisherman Continues for Second Day, NDRF Joins Operation

KANCHANPUR: A rescue operation entered its second day on Friday in search of 42-year-old Amarjit Pal, who went missing after being swept away by strong currents while fishing in the Deon River near Dashda Palpara under Kanchanpur subdivision, North Tripura.

A 30-member team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) arrived from Kumarghat on Friday morning and joined the search operation at the site. Personnel from the subdivisional administration’s disaster management team, the fire services department, and the Tripura State Rifles’ (TSR) disaster response unit are also jointly conducting the search.

Despite the extensive efforts, Amarjit Pal’s body had not been recovered at the time of filing this report.

According to locals, Pal went missing on Thursday evening after being pulled under by strong river currents while fishing. Residents in the area initially launched their own rescue attempts before alerting the authorities. Following this, Kanchanpur Subdivisional Magistrate Ashish Kumar Biswas led various administrative departments to the site to begin a coordinated search operation.

Officials said the search would continue until the missing man is located.
