UDAIPUR: A police personnel was allegedly found performing duty in an intoxicated state at the Tripura Sundari Temple, one of the revered Shakti Peethas, sparking concern among devotees and locals.
According to sources, the incident came to light after the policeman reportedly got into an altercation and misbehaved with a group of young men at the temple premises. It was subsequently learnt that the officer had allegedly been discharging his duties while under the influence of alcohol.
The incident has drawn sharp criticism from the public, with many questioning the propriety of deploying personnel in an intoxicated condition at one of the fifty-one Shakti Peethas associated with Sati, a site considered among the most sacred pilgrimage centres in the region.
Locals have called for strict action against the officer concerned, stressing that security and decorum at such a revered religious site must be maintained at all times.
No official statement has yet been issued by the police department regarding the allegation.
