MELAGHAR: In a unique humanitarian gesture marking Independence Day celebrations, Melaghar Police Station recovered a total of 13 lost and stolen mobile phones and returned them to their rightful owners, in what officials described as a special initiative for the occasion.
Police said the phones were traced and recovered through an operation conducted primarily via a modern government tracking portal. Owners, many of whom had given up hope of retrieving their devices, expressed joy at getting their phones back and thanked the police administration for the effort.
Melaghar Police Station OC Jayanta Das used the occasion to issue an advisory to the public, urging buyers to purchase mobile phones only from authorised shops with proper cash memos and documentation. He noted that purchasing used phones without papers from known or unknown individuals often leaves police with little to track if the device is later lost or stolen, making valid bills and documents essential for any second-hand or new phone purchase.
The initiative has drawn widespread appreciation in the area, with residents praising the police administration’s prompt action alongside the Independence Day observance.
